Dr. Amos Russell Thomas [1827-1895] was a surgeon and prominent professor of anatomy. He was born and resided in New York until he relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1854. There he was appointed to be a demonstrator of anatomy at the Pennsylvania Medical University, and was Chair of Anatomy from 1856 to 1866. Dr. Eleanor Slifer (1900-1986) was a faculty member in the Department of Zoology, University of Iowa and a member of the Entomology Department at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. Dr. Slifer’s groundbreaking work with insect chemoreceptors lead to over 100 published papers in professional journals. Thomas Moore received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1848. He became an ardent follower of the homeopathic movement led by Dr. Constantine Hering.
